Emergent Media

Developing a Digital Artefact

We are diving into the deep end this week. “Start your digital artefacts” we were told. Like I said in my introduction, having an online presence is something that I have wished to fade away over the years and now I have to have this online presence and get marked on it? If that isn’tโ€ฆ

What Message are you Receiving?

We are constantly communicating. We can be sitting in a lecture room listening to a lecturer or catching up with our friends about how drunk we got on the weekend. We are either sending a text to your best friend about how bored you are or replying to a group chat or uploading a statusโ€ฆ

Leaving My Comfort Zone

Hereโ€™s the video I thought I would never upload. A YouTube video with me in it. Iโ€™m pushing away all my self doubt and talking about my DA.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBrRVECcBYs As said in the video, I am thinking of doing an Instagram page where I give tips on how to improve adolescents mental health using essentialโ€ฆ

I Have An Addiction

One of the fastest growing trends of the internet has to be GIFS and Memes. One minute I barely used FaceBook, then next thing I know I’m being tagged in over 40 Memes and GIFS a day because myself and all my friends have an addiction. Producing GIFS that make people genuinely laugh is reallyโ€ฆ

What Is True?

Reading through one of this weeks readings, “What is the problem with social media?” (Hall, Jordan), I found myself being interested in a topic that I didn’t know existed. Supernormal stimuli is how things have been constructed by society, lost their original meaning, which result in things no longer bettering us. Being able to ‘connect’โ€ฆ

Propaganda

Ever since starting my Uni course, I hear the word propaganda constantly. To me, the word ‘propaganda’ was just a big word that I was never going to understand. Propaganda, by its definition is ‘information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a political cause or point of view.’ Memes manage toโ€ฆ

Construction of Perception

As I scroll through my Instagram feed I notice all these incredible adventures that people are going on, but is this just a constructed perception? This photo is from my Instagram page of 16 year old Ruby, in New York. I captioned this post “ice skating” but I can’t skate to save my life. Ifโ€ฆ

I’m Officially Confused

Honestly, the terms discussed today are still confusing me so let’s try to break it down. Hyper-reality: “is an inability of consciousness to distinguish reality from a simulation of reality” (online dictionary) Therefore, viewers do not exactly know if what is shown is real or fake. “It’s here and not here” as Ted would say.โ€ฆ

A Life Update

Here is an update about my DA. My video discusses the people that have affected my DA since beginning my instagram account.ย  Link to Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/loveyourlight_/?hl=en Love Your Light is aimed at adolescents who are looking to improve their mental health through the use of positive quotes, crystals and essential oils.  I really doโ€ฆ

Content Creators

People create content to gain something else. Take away the money gained, the followers who followed and the fame risen, would they still create? I was told the HSC was important. Was it true? No. It was a constructed reality that I was told. I will always regret finishing high school for many reasons butโ€ฆ

Do We Really Have Privacy?

We are always told by our parents; “be careful what you put online”. Yeah well, they’re right. Everything that we do online is being recorded. It’s like a life lesson. ‘Don’t say something you don’t mean’ … yeah well, don’t do anything online that you don’t want others seeing. During HSC my teacher played aโ€ฆ
