Ruby Reviews – Beta

Despite my lack of motivation to contribute to my DA, I am still happy with the way I chose to handle this project. Out of the many aspects to games, this is the only area where I have an interest in or even relate too.

Something that I have struggled with, although, is gaining an audience. I only really have feedback from my pitch video and all of them were – in short – telling me that my idea was great and they would be interested in reading something like this. However, from there, I have had little to no engagement with my work.

I did try to post on Reddit and ask for a discussion in a group dedicated to Netflix, yet I again, didn’t receive any responses.

Despite this, I am still determined to contribute to my DA, I just think I may need to reach out to other platforms. Possibly Tik Tok and Instagram, both of these social media platforms allow for a lot of engagement and are rising in popularity every single day.

As of my research and stated in the above beta video, I have discovered why game shows began in the first place and I still truly believe they serve the same purpose. Game shows are relevant and include the happenings of today’s society and that is what people want to see. Viewers want to watch their favourite celebrity versing an everyday person talking about the issues of society and the worlds news. Not only that, but is free to watch and with the global pandemic it is a great way to find out what is going on in the world but also be entertained. I find that so incredibly fascinating and I am sure I can find an audience that is interested in it as well.

  1. Hi Ruby,

I think your idea of expanding your DA and moving onto other platforms is a great idea. Tik Tok and Instagram would both be great platforms to use as you mentioned and would allow increased engagement and interaction and I think they would definitely help in finding and reaching an audience. These days, it’s a lot easier to find an audience on those platforms as people tend to have a shorter attention span and enjoy scrolling those platform feeds for fun, quick and easy to watch entertainment.

Maybe you could start an Instagram Page that provides viewers with a quick review of a game show followed with a fun and creative caption and the link to your blog page. I think this may create some flow and increase your engagement.

I really like that you’ve used this global pandemic as an opportunity to spend more time on your DA and have discovered greater information on game shows.

Thank you for sharing this video and your blog. It is clear that you find it interesting and fascinating which I believe is the most important part, as your DA wouldn’t be as fun and exciting if you weren’t.

    Keep doing what you’re doing!

  2. Hey Ruby!

I had the same problem with lack of motivation and a struggle to get myself to do this DA. But I also had some great feedback on my DA pitch which helped motivate me to continue on with the idea. I also love the idea of introducing this DA onto new platforms. I think you could have a lot of fun on tiktok with this DA and it would be really entertaining.

I actually found an article that is relevant if you are looking at pursuing something on tiktok. It mentions how “TikTok lets gamers use the short-form video format to focus on specific moments, the player, and culture surrounding the games and consoles they love (and love to hate).” https://newsroom.tiktok.com/en-us/gamersontiktok/. As you can see, there is a niche for gaming on tiktok! Anyway, I am exited to work with you on the group assignment and see where it takes us! 😉

  3. Ruby, I feel you, motivation is really hard at this time but It is good to hear you enjoy this area of games which I thought was smart of you to look into. Netflix definitely takes up our time. I too struggle with interaction but may be due to my contribution to platforms and consistency. From my experience of games shows is coming together with family to watch on TV and therefore a community online, recently I’ve watched New Girl and there was a scene when Jess broke the TV and the guys were distraught as that was what the living room was for and where they spend a lot of their time. Honestly I think ‘The floor is lava’ is trash and don’t know who would watch it so it’s interesting to compare to another game show. I am using Tiktok for my medium and it is clear there is a game culture audience, with billions of users there is a chance for positive interaction! with no limit on content. I’m keen to see where you will go in the next few weeks. Good Luck.
